Updated: “The Money’s In the List!”Here’s a multi-million dollar business you can start today based on four simple and indisputable facts: ….. (i) everyone has all-consuming passions, special interests, overwhelming needs …. (ii) everyone has problems, large and small …. (iii) most people will pay to feed their passions and solve their problems …..
….. (iv) and you can make money from feeding those passions and solving those problems, without experience, without heavy investment, and without ever having a web site of your own!
In fact just an email list is all you need to earn a full time living from two or three hours easy work each week!
And best of all you can run most of your business on eBay!
Let’s start by deciding who will get those emails and may eventually buy one, two or many more of the products and services you recommend once they’re on your mailing list.
Suppose you choose solving problems over pandering to passions, where these scenarios represent markets for you to turn into fast and ready cash.
Put yourself into your potential buyers’ shoes and imagine:
- Your wife leaves you, she says you never listened to her properly and she’s tired of being ignored. You want her back now, not tomorrow. So when you’re offered a free report ‘How to Open Your Ears and Listen to Your Wife and Keep Her Happy and With You For Life’, wouldn’t you just fall over yourself to download it right away! Of course you would! And if the vendor offers another report, with a price tag this time, which all but guarantees your wife will remain with you for life, wouldn’t you rush to sign up for a lifetime of married bliss? Then if the seller sends you several more emails later, mentioning eBooks packed with ideas for romantic evenings together or dates to remember, might you not buy them also?
- You’re a great golfer, one of the best, you’re treated like royalty at your local golf club. But there’s a newcomer at the club, he’s also very good, and your crown is beginning to slip. You need to improve your golfing skills - fast! So you Google for ways to improve your skills and you spot a free report ‘How to Be a Better Golfer in Two Hours Flat’, and you only have to provide your email address to get it. The report is good, very good, and two days later the author tells you about a crash course in golfing designed to improve your skills by ten to twenty per cent in less than seven days. Will you attend? And if that person subsequently sends emails about personalised golf balls that make you the centre of attention again, might you buy those?
That’s just two of millions of problems people are experiencing right now and for which they’ll pay for a solution right away and some will continue buying products and services based on your recommendations.
So it should come as no surprise to learn this can be as small or as big a business as you choose, where you help solve just one common problem or hundreds of problems, and you do it pretty much like this:
i) Find people with a problem and money to spend and willing to pay for a solution. That’s because you’re not a charity and you don’t want to provide complete solutions free of charge. You’ll find these people in Internet forums, through ezines, in offline newspapers and magazines, by searching for them on Google, and more. You need to get those people onto your mailing list which you do by offering a valuable incentive like a free report or email course that might entice thousands of sign ups.
ii) Study your list members’ problem, search for a ‘partway’ solution, write a few hundred words about the solution and turn it into a four or five page pdf file for instant download or chop it into five or six pieces and call it an ‘email course’. This is your incentive and it’s a good idea to test several and go with the one that attracts the greatest number of sign ups.
iii) Organise a ‘squeeze’ page for people to join your mailing list to get your free report or email course. A ‘squeeze page’ is so called because it ‘squeezes’ information out of people, mainly their names and email addresses which many of us are reluctant to give without inducement, in this case your free report or email course.
Once signed up you start sending emails to list members, offering low cost, no cost, and sometimes high cost solutions to their problem. And because they liked your free information, many will buy one or all of your recommendations.
If it’s starting to sound complicated, think again, because you don’t even have to create your own squeeze page, not in the physical sense, and you’ll find most popular email storage and delivery programs will create and host your squeeze page as part of your monthly subscription fee. All you do is customise a standard template to include the name of your report and other important features, following which you’ll receive a string of code to include in forum postings, emails, articles, or other promotions used to attract people to visit your squeeze page.

No prizes for suggesting that string of code looks awkward, complicated, wholly unprofessional, and may deter some people from joining your list.
You need to smarten it up which you do by buying a domain name that represents the interest of your list members. The shorter your domain name, the better it looks, and the easier it is for list members to remember and key into their browsers.
Now comes a process called ‘forwarding’ or ‘forwarding and masking’ which hides the raw code for your squeeze page behind your newly acquired domain name. Then when someone keys your paid-for domain name into their browser they are taken directly to your squeeze page on another company’s site without your affiliate link showing.
In a free report planned for next week’s eLetter I’ll show you, with easy step-by-step illustrations, how to set up your squeeze page and drive traffic to it and how to create and send promotional emails.
So far you’ve spent just a few minutes designing the form, quarter of an hour or so choosing a domain name and applying the forwarding and masking technique, and already you have the basis of an email marketing business that could generate thousands of pounds every month in very easy profits for you.
iv) Write a short email thanking people for joining your list and asking them to confirm acceptance to receive your emails - it’s called ‘opting in’ to your list and means you won’t be accused of spamming list members.
v) Now create another short email that goes out immediately someone opts in and tells them how to access your free report or email course.
vi) Next place your report or email course online where, once again you don’t need your own hosting space or knowledge of html or web site design. That’s because, with aWeber and similar companies you can send your free report as an attachment within their system or create and schedule a series of emails containing your course modules.
vii) Next you choose products and services and begin creating emails to grow a relationship of trust with your list members and ultimately tempt them to buy. It’s very easy to create order-pulling emails and just a few lines are sufficient to make your recommendation and encourage readers to click on the affiliate link to take them to the sales page and buy. I’ll show you how to do this next week and I’ll even give you the emails to send.
viii) Finally you go looking for people to visit your squeeze page and join your list and begin receiving a lifetime of emails about free and paid-for promotions. This is called ‘generating traffic’ and, despite popular opinion, absolutely anyone can grow a massive and hugely responsive mailing list, even without experience or special knowledge and without ever having a web site of their own.
