Sell Themed Collectibles on eBay
Some themes attract buyers across a wide range of collectibles,
including postcards and ephemera, ornaments and newspapers, badges and
models, and a great many other things besides.
The fact that some themes cover so many individual collectible types
provides an excellent opportunity for eBay sellers to specialise in one
or two big interest subjects and to sell literally hundreds of themed
products every month to a vast audience on eBay.
There are many thousands of collectable themes to consider, including
pigs and frogs, mushrooms and aeroplanes, and two of my particular best
sellers, windmills and lighthouses.
The reason I personally like buying and selling products featuring
windmills and lighthouses is not only because they are immensely popular
subjects, but because they currently have few specialist sellers on
eBay, so competition is relatively low and profit margins immensely
attractive.
You can find tight niches like windmills and lighthouses, currently with
little competition on eBay, by searching the bookshelves in major town
or city newsagents. Look for magazines targeting collectors, you’ll find
quite a few, you might purchase one or two because they’re all packed
with information to grow your eBay business which a quick scan won’t
reveal.
What you’re looking for are articles and advertisements about specific
collectibles. You’re also looking for pages featuring back issues of the
magazine, where usually you’ll see front pages and contents lists, both
of which give insights into regular articles for specific collectible
themes. Regular articles about golliwogs, for example, or teddy bears,
tea pots or kewpie dolls, signifies a potentially profitable specialist
theme for your eBay business. Several advertisements from people selling
or wanting to purchase specific collectibles is another sign of a
profitable theme business on eBay.
Once you have those ideas, search for specialist sellers on eBay, if you
find few or no specialist sellers, there’s a good theme for further
research.
If time permits, you could sell a range of individual themes on eBay
using different eBay selling accounts. However, perhaps the biggest
incentive for sellers is that few rivals exist, on and off the Internet,
for many of these big interest themes. That means little if any
competition among buyers at boot sales, auctions and flea markets, even
on eBay itself where same theme items can often be bought in bulk and
resold on eBay.
I hope you can already see the immense potential of selling hundreds of
same theme items from a selection of eBay accounts and catering for big
spend buyers and others on a limited budget but usually keen to purchase
collectibles in bulk.
